hope that you are all enjoying successes in your job search! For those who would like a periodic refresher to review your job search, ask questions, and share successes and tips, I am initiating a weekly or bi-weekly teleconference call one weekday evening at 9pm. If you would like to participate please indicate which evenings are best for you (or which evenings will not work for you) and I will set it up beginning next week.

Refresher from our job workshop:

1) First step in your search starts within you and requires an attitude check and possible adjustment (using the principles outlined in the Secret and found on my website (www.a1-life-skill-coaching.com ) including "Ask, Believe, Receive"; maintain a prosperity or abundance and positive attitude (i.e. "There are enough jobs, or whatever we need.")

2) Finding job openings: If you are not finding enough (in fact, you should be overwhelmed and have to prioritize which ones you actually apply to)--then you are not using the tools available to you (check on my blog for some of the tools), and you should attend a workshop or refresher.

3) Applying to job openings:
a) The e-mail header and subject line is very important and must be creative yet brief (or the fax cover page headliner)--this is what get's the initial attention so they read the next.
b) The cover letter is your chance to "converse" with the hiring manager--this is where you should win them over.
c) The resume seals the deal (and should be adapted for every opening) but is really the afterthought after a) and b) are done right.
d) If you don't hear follow up to find out if they received your resume, etc.

4) The Interview/Showtime/"American Idol"
a) Make friends with the receptionist
b) Build early rapport with the interview and put him/her at ease.
c) Tell your compelling story
d) Let them know, however gently, that you are interviewing them also.
e) Be proactive--not aggressive; offer alternatives (contractor status; performance based pay with base, etc.)

hope that you are all enjoying successes in your job search!

1) First step in your search starts within you and requires an attitude check and possible adjustment (using the principles outlined in the Secret and found on my website (www.a1-life-skill-coaching.com ) including “Ask, Believe, Receive”; maintain a prosperity or abundance and positive attitude (i.e. “There are enough jobs, or whatever we need.”)

2) Finding job openings: If you are not finding enough (in fact, you should be overwhelmed and have to prioritize which ones you actually apply to)–then you are not using the tools available to you (check on my blog for some of the tools), and you should attend a workshop or refresher.

3) Applying to job openings:
a) The e-mail header and subject line is very important and must be creative yet brief (or the fax cover page headliner)–this is what get’s the initial attention so they read the next.
b) The cover letter is your chance to “converse” with the hiring manager–this is where you should win them over.
c) The resume seals the deal (and should be adapted for every opening) but is really the afterthought after a) and b) are done right.
d) If you don’t hear follow up to find out if they received your resume, etc.

4) The Interview/Showtime/”American Idol”
a) Make friends with the receptionist
b) Build early rapport with the interview and put him/her at ease.
c) Tell your compelling story
d) Let them know, however gently, that you are interviewing them also.
e) Be proactive–not aggressive; offer alternatives (contractor status; performance based pay with base, etc.)
